Huge green cloud over Moscow has terrified Russians tweeting for their lives over apocalypse fears!

(April 26, 2012) Mysterious green clouds have been spotted over the Russian capital, sparking fears of a chemical disaster and even some doomsday theories. The Emergencies Ministry is advising the public to calm down. It says the clouds are actually composed of birch pollen, not of chemicals from an allegedly burning factory in the Moscow region, as some reported. Some people, however, got so scared that even the official comments could not convince them. Russian Twitter users have been posting alarming messages like “Moscow schools are closed because of the blast! Children are sent home,” “Sky has turned completely green in Moscow’s south!” and “The factory in Kaluga is destroyed!” A flood of 911 calls was also registered. Others believe that the authorities are hiding information from the public: “Pollen is just an excuse. It might as well be the beginning of the Apocalypse!” one popular Russian blogger posted to his readers. The odd natural phenomenon mystically coincided with the 26th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, which caused further speculation about the authorities withholding information.

2010 Google Faculty Summit: Cloud Computing and Software Security

Google Faulty Summit 2010 July 29, 2010 ABSTRACT Presented by Ulfar Erlingsson, Manager, Security Research. Software-as-a-service can provide great benefits, such as ubiquitous, reliable access to data, but cloud computing also raises new challenges and opportunities for computer security. Large-scale Web services must address both traditional security concerns, such as user authentication and key management, as well as newer issues like those raised by the need to maintain users’ privacy. At the same time, cloud computing has innate security advantages, such as its use of easily updated and malleable software, which enables instrumentation ranging from individual specialization to large-scale execution summarization. This talk will briefly outline some of these issues and potential research topics in cloud security, with examples from Google’s past and current technology efforts used to give context.

US Enterprises Becoming More Satisfied with Cloud Computing

Portland, OR (PRWEB) February 29, 2012

A new study from Cloud Industry Forum(CIF), sponsored by Rise, a premier provider of cloud computing and hosted IT services, reveals the extent of US cloud computing adoption and satisfaction, and depicts the changing business rationale for migrating to the cloud. The research will aid enterprises in evaluating current market readiness for cloud services in the US, and provides insight into primary drivers and key issues when considering cloud services as part of a wider IT strategy.

The research is based on a survey of 400 senior IT and business decision-makers in enterprises, small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) and public sector organizations. It examines the extent of adoption in cloud services across the US by different organizational types and sizes; primary drivers; role of IT management and leadership; services being accessed; satisfaction levels; and common issues that impede adoption.

According to the findings, the US leads global adoption of cloud services with very high levels of formal adoption and satisfaction. As a result, most organizations currently using cloud services plan to expand use to other areas of IT operations over the next year.

Cloud computing is less about technology and more about challenging the fundamentals of how we manage IT operations, and therefore, business as a whole. This latest research from Cloud Industry Forum suggests that organization size will no longer be a determinant of rate of adoption marking a unique phenomenon in business IT where it is genuinely accessible to all, said Andy Burton, chairman of the Cloud Industry Forum and CEO of Rise. Cloud computing in the US is widespread, proven and will continue to propel business enablement and transformation.

The USA Cloud Adoptions & Trends 2012 whitepaper is available for download from the Rise website at http://us.rise.co/2012-cloud-predictions/register/.
